The government launches public consultation on domestic burning
The UK Government has opened a public consultation on domestic burning of wood and other solid fuels. Have your say on a major source of toxic air before 19 March 2026.
Burning in the home is a significant contributor to fine particulate matter (PM2.5) air pollution, which is linked to serious health impacts including heart and lung disease, stroke and cancer.
The Healthy Air Coalition has published practical guidance to help you respond to the consultation. The guidance is designed to make it straightforward for anyone concerned about air quality and health to share their views, regardless of how much time they have available.
For those with around 10 minutes to spare, our guidance highlights key questions to focus your efforts on.
For those with more time, more detailed guidance is available to support fuller responses to the consultation, including opportunities to explain your views and health concerns in greater depth.
The final question in the consultation asks you to share anything else that you haven’t had the chance to include elsewhere in your response.
The consultation is open until 19 March 2026, and every response will help demonstrate public concern about the health impacts of air pollution and the need for stronger protections.
We encourage everyone worried about air pollution to take part in this consultation. It is important that the government hear that the majority of people want them to take ambitious measures to reduce growing air pollution from wood burning stoves. Your input can help to shape policies that lead to cleaner air and healthier communities.
