Our concerns about air pollution arose from reports about the number of premature deaths in London from poor air quality and the high levels of air pollution in our main shopping street, Putney High Street. We carried out our own survey of NO2 (PDF) and used the publicity to engage with the Council, together with whom we successfully lobbied Transport for London to introduce hybrid and retro-fitted buses on local routes. We plan to survey PM levels when we get the equipment.
The Putney Society works to improve the built and natural environments in Putney though we are also involved with matters of community interest such as the health service and policing.
